Moving Body, Moving Study
Moving Body, Moving Study was co-published with the Brooklyn Academy of Music on the occasion of the exhibition of time- and movement-based work of the same name, that explores the body’s capacity for remembering. Moving Body, Moving Study considers the ways in which artists score, archive, or otherwise embed gestures and movement to relay accumulated experience, trauma, and historical and cultural memory. Organized in conjunction with BAM Next Wave Art, and engaging the BAM Fisher Lower Lobby as a space for reflection and refuge, this unique program featured three screenings rotated monthly, readings and public events, and newly commissioned print publications by Lauren Bakst, Patty Chang, Jesse Chun, Kerry Downey and Joanna Seitz, Kevin Jerome Everson, Freya Powell, and Sable Elyse Smith. Artists in the program also included Jibade-Khalil Huffman and Gloria Maximo.
