Clio History
Theresa Hak Kyung Cha’s book tells the story of Yu Guan Soon, a sixteen-year-old Korean girl who was an active revolutionary against the Japanese at the beginning of the twentieth century. The book also includes a translation of a Korean government document from 1907, an exploration of the concept of “enemy,” and the text of a petition from the Koreans of Hawaii to President Roosevelt. Though the focus is mostly on this textual content, Clio History also features a black and white photograph of Yu Guan Soon, two pages of large characters in brush script, and a page-spread of handwriting in English.
