...Our Warmest and Most Affectionate Greetings
The title of this work comes from the good-tidings sent from the FALN to other internationalist struggles at the end of one of their communiqués: “Finally, we send our warmest and most affectionate greetings to the freedom fighters of our Latin American homeland from Argentina’s Tierra del Fuego to the South, to Mexico in the north where the struggle continues to end fascist oligarchies and their Yanki masters, and who are creating the many Viet-Nams necessary for the total destruction of imperialism and the victory of democracy, justice, and equality.”
—FALN Communiqué no. 6, October 27, 1975.
For me, the love that the FALN sent to other revolutionaries implied a network of solidarity that made the group not seem so alone in their clandestine cells in northern US cities. I imagine this internationalism as an ideological archipelago of revolutions scattered across the globe, mapping out a series of island Utopias.
The works are constructed from the maps of the countries mentioned in the FALN’s communiqués. I collected US military maps from the 1970s that detailed the coastlines those places, after printing these coastal maps in a turquoise halftone on brick-colored paper, I cut up and collaged them together, creating a jumbled mix territories of conflict and solidarity that laid out an imagined archipelago of utopias.
